Recently, our XDX-6E crawler full-hydraulic wireline core drilling rig completed ultra-deep drilling construction at the deep exploration project of Hulonghe Iron Mine, Gasa Town, Yuxi City, Yunnan Province. Designed with a standard rated drilling depth of 1600 meters and matched with NQ wireline core drill rods, the rig stably reached a final depth of 1800 meters on site. The whole operation ran smoothly without malfunctions, complete continuous layered iron ore core samples were retrieved with qualified core recovery rate, showing outstanding overall performance and fully verifying the rig’s powerful capacity for deep hard rock exploration.

• Severe Working Conditions Bring Strict Requirements for Drilling Equipment

The construction site locates at Hulonghe Iron Mine in Yuxi, Yunnan. The strata are dominated by hard metamorphic rock and fractured iron-bearing ore layers with developed fractures at deep positions. Deep boreholes over 1000 meters are prone to common problems such as drill jamming, hydraulic overheating and power loss, which put extremely high standards on the rig’s torque output, heat dissipation, pressure resistance and matching performance of drilling tools. Conventional 1600m-level core rigs often suffer insufficient power and poor continuous operation stability in similar mining areas.

1. Drilling Capacity Beyond Standard Design, Successfully Hits 1800 Meters The XDX-6E model is originally rated for 1600m drilling depth with standard NQ wireline drill rods. During field operation in Hulonghe Iron Mine, the rig ran continuously under full load and steadily broke through its rated depth to finish a 1800m borehole. No overheat shutdown, core jamming or power drop occurred throughout construction, with stable performance of tool sealing and hydraulic pressure bearing system.

Self-propelled Crawler Chassis for Convenient Transportation in Mountainous Mining Areas Equipped with heavy-duty steel crawlers with strong climbing capacity, the rig can directly drive into narrow mountain mining sites without large lifting equipment. It eliminates complicated disassembly and transportation steps of split drilling machines and greatly shortens preparation period before construction.
3. High-torque Full Hydraulic Rotary System for Deep Hard Rock Coring Fitted with high-power main hydraulic motor with sufficient torque reserve for deep hard and fractured rock drilling. Adopting mature NQ wireline coring technology, core samples can be fished out without pulling out the whole drill string, drastically cutting auxiliary working time and improving overall efficiency for kilometer-level exploration.
4. Matched High-strength NQ Drill Rods Guarantee Safe Ultra-deep Drilling The project adopts original high-strength NQ drill rods with excellent compression and torsion resistance. No rod deformation or thread seizure happened during 1800m deep drilling. Matched with wear-resistant alloy bits, complete ore core sampling is realized efficiently.

• On-site Construction Achievements

After drilling completion, intact continuous iron ore core samples were obtained. Standard core tags clearly record key exploration data including borehole number, depth, run length, core length and recovery rate. The well-layered core samples fully meet the standards of geological survey sampling, stratigraphic analysis and mineral reserve evaluation, winning high recognition from the mining contractor. Our technical team optimized the hydraulic heat dissipation circuit and high-pressure pipeline sealing structure in advance for deep iron ore exploration conditions in Yunnan mountain areas. The overall upgrade of main machine and supporting drilling tools solves universal industry pain points of traditional rigs in ultra-deep drilling.
