1. What is Diamond Core Drilling?
Diamond core drilling is a high-precision, core-preserving drilling method that uses diamond-impregnated drill bits to cut and sample rock formations. As the most authoritative and widely adopted technology for mineral exploration, geological survey, and engineering geological investigation, it delivers intact solid rock core samples for accurate stratum analysis, resource reserve calculation, and construction condition evaluation.
Different from impact drilling that crushes rock mass, diamond core drilling adopts rotary cutting with super-hard diamond bits. 2. Working Principle of Diamond Core Drilling
Diamond core drilling relies on the high hardness and wear resistance of diamond particles on the bit. Driven by the full hydraulic drilling rig, the diamond bit rotates steadily and cuts rock strata layer by layer. With the protection of double-tube wireline coring system and circulating flushing fluid, the rock core enters the inner barrel completely without damage.
After completing single-section drilling, the core barrel is retrieved through wireline salvage without pulling out the entire drill string. After sampling inspection, the inner barrel is reset quickly to continue deep drilling. The whole process realizes continuous, stable and high-precision coring operation.
