Ⅰ.Project Overview

This project is geotechnical investigation work in the early stage of urban suburban infrastructure construction. The construction site is narrow and confined, adjacent to ongoing building projects. The ground is mixed with backfill soil, silty clay and shallow weathered rock. The main tasks include shallow geological coring, stratum sampling and geological structure detection. The designed drilling depth per borehole is 50 meters with borehole diameter ranging from 75mm to 108mm. The client required compact size, easy transportation, simple operation for limited working space, as well as stable drilling performance and intact core samples.

After comprehensive equipment comparison, the construction contractor adopted Xingda XY-50 portable core drilling rig manufactured by Hubei Xingda Machinery. Equipped with single-cylinder diesel engine and lightweight integrated design, the rig can be moved and positioned manually without large hoisting machinery. It ran smoothly on site, finished a batch of geological survey boreholes, obtained complete core samples and accurately surveyed subsurface stratification, successfully fulfilling the pre-construction geotechnical exploration mission.

ǁ.On-site Construction Difficulties

1.Confined working space blocks large drilling equipment 

The site is enclosed with dense barriers and scattered narrow zones. Conventional heavy-duty drilling rigs are too bulky to be transported and relocated to dispersed survey points.

2.Alternating soft & hard shallow strata easily break core samples 

Loose backfill soil on the upper layer tends to collapse holes, while underlying weathered rock is harder. Improper drilling speed will crack core samples and interfere with geological data analysis.

3.Unstable temporary power supply on construction site 

Urban suburban sites lack reliable municipal electricity, frequent power cuts interrupt drilling work, requiring self-contained power system for the rig.

4.Scattered survey points demand frequent relocation, wasting construction time 

Dispersed borehole locations require repeated equipment movement; bulky rigs will greatly extend the overall survey schedule.

Ⅲ.Core Advantages of XY-50 for Narrow Shallow Exploration

1.Lightweight Body for Easy Manual Transfer

Total machine weight ranges from 260kg to 330kg with simple disassembly. Two workers can easily lift and move the rig. The sliding base enables fine position adjustment in tight spaces. Compact transport size fits pickup trucks and tricycles, perfectly suited for scattered, narrow construction sites

2.Branded Diesel Engine, Power Independent of Mains Supply

 Powered by 8HP single-cylinder diesel engine with stable output and low failure rate, supporting all-weather drilling without external electricity. It features economical fuel consumption to cut operation costs for suburban remote surveys and guarantees long service life.

3.Dual Hydraulic Cylinder Feeding System for Stable Drilling

Dual hydraulic cylinders deliver steady feeding: slow pressure prevents hole collapse in loose soil, while higher speed improves efficiency in weathered rock. Spindle speed is adjustable in 2 or 3 gears (142/285/570r/min) with maximum torque 450N·m, adapting to varied strata and greatly improving core integrity.

4.Optional Winch & Brake System for Labor-saving & Safe Pipe Lifting

 XY-50Y and XY-50YY versions are equipped with winch and brake assembly. The large brake disc delivers sensitive braking and heavy load capacity. It eliminates manual pulling of drill pipes to reduce labor intensity, and the locking brake prevents accidental pipe falling for safer operation.

5. Integrated Control Panel, Single-operator Operation 

Rotary speed, feeding pressure and thrust are centrally controlled. A precision pressure gauge monitors downhole pressure in real time, allowing operators to adjust parameters timely to avoid hole collapse and drill jamming. New staff can master operation quickly after brief training.

Deployed in this suburban infrastructure survey project, Xingda XY-50 portable core drilling rig navigated narrow scattered construction sites effortlessly without large lifting equipment, greatly boosting relocation efficiency. The self-contained diesel power solved unstable site power supply issues. The dual hydraulic feeding system adapted perfectly to alternating backfill soil and weathered rock strata, delivering smooth drilling without hole collapse or drill jamming, and obtained intact continuous core samples down to 50 meters.

Compared with traditional mini drilling rigs, the total survey period was shortened by over 25%, labor transfer and maintenance costs were cut remarkably. Accurate stratigraphic data was delivered and fully approved by the client.
