Portable Pneumatic Down-the-Hole Drill Rig Slope Reinforcement Solution

Mar 09, 2026

For mine slope reinforcement projects, a solution centered on a portable pneumatic down-the-hole drill rig is highly effective for efficiently drilling anchor bolt holes in narrow, steep, or inaccessible working faces where large equipment is difficult to access. Below is a solution based on a typical engineering case.

The core of this solution is to utilize the equipment's lightweight design, single power source (compressed air only), and adaptability to complex terrain to quickly complete the drilling of anchor bolt holes.

1. Engineering Challenges and Core Requirements

In mine slope management, challenges such as narrow working platforms, steep slopes, difficulty in accessing large equipment, or lack of stable power supply are common. In such cases, a drilling equipment that can be quickly transported, flexibly set up, and operates solely on an air compressor is needed.

2. Recommended Equipment: Fully Pneumatic Lightweight Down-the-Hole Drill Rig

Taking Xingda's best-selling XDQ-100 or XDQ-70 pneumatic down-the-hole drill rig as an example. This type of equipment is ideally suited for this solution:

Highly portable: The main unit weighs approximately 150 kg and can be disassembled and transported, allowing for easy movement to the work site on the slope using manpower or simple machinery.

Single power source: Powered entirely by compressed air, requiring no electricity. It can operate independently in the field with only a portable air compressor of appropriate airflow.

Flexible operation: Typically installed using a bracket or column, the drilling angle can be easily adjusted to meet the drilling requirements of different inclination angles for slope anchors.

Performance matching: Drilling depths can reach 20-30 meters, with diameters between 50-130 mm, fully meeting the construction requirements of most mid- and deep anchor bolt and cable holes.

3. Typical Construction Process

Site survey and hole location layout: Determine the slope reinforcement area and anchor bolt layout diagram.

Equipment arrival and assembly: Transport the disassembled drilling rig, bracket, drill rods, etc., to the work platform for rapid assembly.

Connecting the Power System: Connect the drilling rig to the nearest mobile air compressor using a high-pressure air hose (selectable based on the drilling rig's air consumption of 10-13 cubic meters/minute).

Positioning and Drilling: Adjust the drilling rig support to precisely position the designed hole location and angle.

Drilling Operation: Turn on the air compressor and operate the drilling rig to drill. A "impact + rotation" impactor working method is used to efficiently break the rock.

Hole Formation and Cleaning: After reaching the designed depth, stop drilling and use high-pressure air to blow out the rock powder from the hole, completing the construction of one anchor bolt hole.

Relocation: Disassemble the drilling rig and support, and quickly move it to the next hole location.

4. Advantages and Selection Considerations of this Solution

The main advantages of this solution are its excellent terrain adaptability, rapid deployment capability, and low supporting costs, making it particularly suitable for small to medium-scale slope reinforcement or emergency repair projects in mountainous areas with poor transportation access.

When selecting specific equipment, we recommend you focus on the following points:

Drilling capacity: Confirm whether the maximum drilling depth and diameter of the drill rig meet your design requirements.

Equipment weight and disassembly: This directly determines the difficulty of transportation in complex terrain.

Air consumption: An air compressor with a corresponding exhaust capacity must be matched; otherwise, drilling efficiency will be affected.

Rock adaptability: Down-the-hole drills are generally suitable for medium-hard and harder rocks. For extremely fractured strata, a casing drill string is required.
